Sirens expected in Webster, Irondequoit Bay area Tuesday. Here’s why

All 96 sirens within Ginna’s 10-mile emergency planning zone — which includes much of Webster and extends toward Irondequoit Bay — will sound for three to five minutes.

The test will be initiated from the City of Rochester/Monroe County 911 activation point and coordinated with the Wayne County Emergency Operations Center. Additional single-siren tests may occur throughout the day.

No Action Required From Public

Officials said no response from the public is necessary. The activation is only a test.

In a real emergency, sirens would prompt residents to tune in to local Emergency Alert System radio or television stations for instructions.

Emergency planning information and a list of EAS stations are available at monroecounty.gov/safety-oem.

About the Ginna Plant

The R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant sits on 426 acres along Lake Ontario in Ontario, about 20 miles northeast of Rochester and 53 miles southwest of the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station.
