By The St. Clair County Health Department
The St. Clair County Health Department is announcing the “Great COVID Cleanup,” taking place on May 11, 2026. This community-wide initiative marks the third anniversary of the end of the federal COVID-19 public health emergency and reflects a shared commitment to moving forward together.
The “Great COVID Cleanup” aims to restore everyday spaces to a more familiar, welcoming environment by encouraging the removal of outdated pandemic-era materials such as signage, plexiglass barriers, and floor markers that are no longer needed. Local retailers, businesses, and public facilities across St. Clair County are invited to participate in this coordinated effort.
The Health Department emphasizes that the cleanup is not about forgetting the pandemic, but about recognizing how far the community has come and supporting a positive path forward.
In the coming weeks, the Health Department will share additional information with the public, including evidence-based recommendations for reducing the indoor transmission of airborne respiratory viruses.
