Appleton area high school sports results for Monday, May 4

BASEBALL

Kimberly 3, Appleton North 2

KIMBERLY – The Papermakers scored two runs in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead and then held off the Lightning for the Fox Valley Association win.

Kimberly improves to 7-1 in the FVA and 10-1 overall. Appleton North falls to 6-1 in the FVA and 10-2 overall.

Lex Knaebe had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs for Kimberly. Beckett Hermus hit two doubles, Maddux Hermus hit a double and Pierson Hacker drove in a run.

Teegan Karpinske, Colin Reddy and Griffin Stan had hits for North. Karpinske and Stan drove in runs.

Maddux Hermus pitched five innings to get the win. He allowed one hit, an unearned run, walked six and struck out five. Shaefer Peterson pitched 1⅓ innings, allowed two hits, an unearned run, walked two and struck out one. Hacker retired both batters he faced.

Cash Christianson took the loss for the Lightning. He pitched 5⅓ innings, allowed 10 hits, three runs and struck out two.

Marinette 5, Xavier 4

MARINETTE – Levi Hanson singled to drive in a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Marines a 5-4 lead in the victory over the Hawks.

Hanson and Chase MacGregor each had two hits for Marinette. Hanson finished with three RBIs.

Titan Milhaupt had two hits and drove in two runs for Xavier.

Eli Menor earned the win for Marinette. He allowed two hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out none and walking one.

Frankie Cavaiani took the loss for Xavier. The starting pitcher went six innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on eight hits, striking out two and walking four.

Neenah 6, Menasha 3 (Sunday)

GRAND CHUTE – The Rockets scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 5-3 lead in the victory over the Bluejays at Neuroscience Group Field.

Levi Boivin and Owen Pire both had two hits for Neenah. Pire drove in two runs and Boivin had one RBI. Ethan Hellengreen had a triple and an RBI.

Connor Amsler pitched 5⅔ innings to get the win. He allowed six hits, three runs, walked three and struck out four. Henry St. Clair pitched 1⅓ innings. He did not allow a hit, walked two and struck out two.

Jack Olszewski had a double and drove in two runs for Menasha.

SOFTBALL

Kimberly 5, Fond du Lac 1

FOND DU LAC – The Papermakers scored four runs in the top of the third inning to take a 4-1 lead in the victory over the Cardinals.

Bella Ellestad pitched a complete game for Kimberly. She allowed three hits, one unearned run, walked two and struck out two.

Sophie Hermus had two hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs. Ellestad had a double and a triple. Paige Schreck, Breckan Luedke and Nevaeh Honick also had RBIs.

Fox Valley Lutheran 2, Appleton North 0

APPLETON – Madison Babcock pitched a complete-game shutout to lead the Foxes to the nonconference win over the Lightning.

Babcock allowed three hits and struck out 13 batters.

Babcock had an RBI double to score Natalie Bromm in the third inning for a 1-0 lead. Bromm had two hits and also drove in a run.

Claire Therkildsen had two hits for the Lightning.

Evelyn Frega took the loss for Appleton North. She pitched 4⅓ innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out seven and walking one.

GIRLS SOCCER

Freedom 7, Wautoma 0

FREEDOM – Ava Calhoon had three goals and one assist, and Adria Ponschock had two goals and two assists for the Irish in the nonconference win.

Ally Daul and Brooklyn Meyer also scored for Freedom.

Freedom goalie Sophia Johnson made one save.
