3 dead in multi-vehicle crash near Volusia Speedway Park, FHP says

(Editor’s note: This story has been corrected to show where emergency vehicles are stationed on State Road 40.)

DELEON SPRINGS — Three people died in a multi-vehicle crash on State Road 40 May 4, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to FHP Lt. Tara Crescenzi, troopers are on scene investigating the accident which shut down State Road 40 in both directions just west of the Volusia Speedway Park.

Authorities said the crash occurred around 9 a.m.

From the Volusia Speedway Park, emergency vehicles could be seen blocking State Road 40 between Lake Winona and Chesser Hammock roads, where the front of a tractor-trailer-type truck was also visible. What appeared to be two other non-emergency vehicles were on the side of the road.

According to preliminary information called in to dispatchers, three other people were entrapped. Troopers said several other injuries were reported.
