Woodward Sports is leaving Woodward Avenue.
Woodward Sports, the all-digital, sports-talk broadcasting outfit, is moving locations after Joey Namou acquired the majority stake from founder Chad Johnson of Lady Jane’s, the company announced Monday morning. The transaction has been in the works for months.
As part of the sale, which the company described as a “seven-figure transaction,” Woodward Sports is moving its studios from the original Birmingham location on Woodward Avenue, in a space it shared with Lady Jane’s, to a studio in Royal Oak. The new, 3,500-square-foot location is located at 108 S. Main St., in the building that also houses Leo’s Coney Island, among other businesses.
Johnson launched Woodward Sports in 2020, and the network currently has four daily live shows.
“From Day 1, our goal was to build a platform that truly represents Detroit sports fans,” Namou said in a statement Monday. “The support we’ve received from the city over the past five years has been incredible.
“As we move forward, we’re focused on growing Woodward Sports into something even bigger.”
Namou, who attended Birmingham Brother Rice High School and Oakland University, began his broadcasting career as an intern with “Mojo in the Morning.” He has assumed the title of CEO of Woodward Sports. The company’s leadership team will include Sam Day, a founding partner of Woodward Sports.
Namou and Day co-hosted the first-ever show on Woodward Sports, “The Morning Woodward Show.”
Woodward Sports’ current lineup of hosts includes ex-Michigan and NFL star Braylon Edwards, Red Wings great Darren McCarty, and longtime Detroit media personalities Sean Baligian, Terry Foster and Neal Ruhl.
