Here's the midterm races we're watching in Hillsdale County this fall

This article is intended to be a resource for registered voters in Hillsdale County for the primary and general elections of 2026, taking place Aug. 4 and Nov. 3. This page will be updated as candidates announce their campaigns, and again following the results of the primary.

In addition to the local races listed below, statewide decisions include governor, secretary of state, attorney general and a seat in the U.S. Senate.

All information is according to official announcements from candidates and county-based election records.

U.S. House of Representatives (Two-Year Term)

Fifth District 

Region: Full — Hillsdale County, Branch County, Cass County, Jackson County, Lenawee County, Monroe County and St. Joseph County

Incumbent: Rep. Tim Walberg (R–Tipton)

Filing Deadline: For ballot, April 21. For write-in Aug. 4, July 24. For write-in Nov. 3, Oct. 23.

Candidates: Walberg is expected to seek re-election, but no other candidates have been confirmed.

Michigan Senate (Four-Year Term)

16th District 

Region: Partial — Hillsdale County, Lenawee County and Monroe County

Incumbent: Sen. Joseph Bellino Jr. (R–Monroe)

Filing Deadline: For ballot, April 21. For write-in Aug. 4, July 24. For write-in Nov. 3, Oct. 23.

Candidates: Bellino has announced his intent to seek re-election, but no other candidates have been confirmed.

Michigan House of Representatives (Two-Year Term)

35th District 

Region: Full — Hillsdale County and Branch County

Incumbent: Rep. Jennifer Wortz (R–Quincy)

Filing Deadline: For ballot, April 21. For write-in Aug. 4, July 24. For write-in Nov. 3, Oct. 23.

Candidates: Wortz has announced her intent to seek re-election, but no other candidates have been confirmed.

Hillsdale County 1st Circuit Court Judge

Incumbents: Sara Lisznyai

Filing Deadline: For incumbents, March 23. For other candidates, April 21.

Candidates: Lisznyai is seeking re-election, but no other candidates have been confirmed.

Hillsdale County 2B District Court Judge

Incumbents: Megan Stiverson

Filing Deadline: For incumbents, March 23. For other candidates, April 21.

Candidates: Stiverson is seeking re-election, but no other candidates have been confirmed.

Hillsdale Mayor (Four-Year Term)

Incumbent: Scott Sessions

Candidates:

Hillsdale City Council (Four Four-Year Terms)

Incumbents: Greg Stuchell, Will Morrisey, Gary Wolfram, and Joshua Paladino

Candidates: None declared as of March 2

Jonesville Mayor (Two-Year Term)

Incumbent: Gerry Arno

Candidates: None declared as of March 2

Jonesville City Council (Three Four-Year Terms)

Incumbents: Chris Grider, Brenda Guyse, George Humphries Jr. 

Candidates: None declared as of March 2

Reading Mayor (Two-Year Term)

Incumbents: Chad Penney

Candidates: None declared as of March 2

Reading City Council (Two Four-Year Terms)

Incumbents: Chuck George and Todd Crank

Candidates: None declared as of March 2

Litchfield Mayor (Four-Year Term)

Incumbents: Jessica Bills

Candidates: None declared as of March 2

Litchfield Council (Three Four-Year Terms)

Incumbents: Don Bannick, Rick Siebert, and Alecia Aponte

Candidates: None declared as of March 2

Proposals

There are no proposals listed for Aug. 4 or Nov. 3 in Hillsdale County, as of March 2. They are due by May 12 and Aug. 11, respectively.
