LYONS TWP. – A 78-year-old Pewamo man was airlifted with serious injuries to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids after the ATV he was driving collided with a vehicle just west of the village of Pewamo on Sunday, May 3, the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office said.
The crash occurred about 1:48 p.m. when the man failed to stop the ATV at the intersection of Cook Road and E. Blue Water Highway and was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound through the intersection, according to a release.
The ATV operator, whose name was not released, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the ATV, the sheriff’s office said.
The crash remains under investigation.
The Ionia County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Pewamo Fire Department, Life Ambulance Services, Aeromed and Rueh’s Towing.
