STURGIS — Last week’s athlete of the week voting has come to a close.
Angela Cary of Sturgis was voted as the winner. The senior from Sturgis High School earned 6,964 of the more than 14,000 total votes cast this week. That was good for 49.67 percent of the total votes cast.
Cary was nominated for the award after a strong showing in track and field. Cary punched her return ticket to the MHSAA state finals this year after leaping over the 5-2 foot mark in the high jump in Jackson.
Will Hulin of Centreville finished second overall in the voting. He registered 4,587 total votes for 32.72 percent of those cast. Caleb Hohn of Sturgis finished third (1,561 for 11.13 percent), Matthew Bates of Centreville earned 410 votes (2.92 percent) while Morgan Niblock, Allie Burns, Ashlynn Michalek and Kailee Jones finished with 354 (2.52 percent) and Niblock registered 145 votes herself for just over one percent.
Athlete of the week polls are presented weekly by our good friends at Glen Oaks Community College. The polls have been spread out throughout different start times through those weeks as we look for the best results for interraction.
This coming week’s poll will be posted on Monday afternoon.
