A woman is dead and two others injured after a shooting on the north side of Indianapolis early May 3 at a post-prom party, police and city leaders said.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a report of a person shot at a home in the 4000 block of North Park Avenue just before 1 a.m. May 3, where they found a woman with gunshot wounds.
Later that morning, officers responded to IU Health Methodist Hospital, where police determined that two people who had walked in with gunshot wounds were injured in the same shooting. The woman found at the scene was later pronounced dead, police said.
Indianapolis City-County Councilor John Barth, whose district includes the 4000 block of North Park Avenue, said in a social media post that the shooting occurred during a “post-prom gathering” at a short-term rental property and may have been sparked by a dispute between people at the gathering.
But the property, a duplex, appears to be a long-term rental, Meridian-Kessler Neighborhood Association president Emily Clust told IndyStar. The home is owned by a Fort Wayne-based investment firm, according to Marion County property records.
Police have not confirmed publicly that the shooting took place at a post-prom event.
