Police deem threats at Avon, Zionsville high schools non-credible

Police investigated threats at Avon High School and Zionsville Community High School on May 1.

“We received an anonymous phone call that was threatening some kind of an issue outside of our building this afternoon, so out of an abundance of caution, we issued a lockdown,” said Kevin Carr, communications coordinator for Avon Community School Corporation.

Police investigated the building and determined there was no threat, and the lockdown was lifted. As police were investigating, Carr said, he learned that Zionsville Community High School received the same phone call.

In an email to students and parents, Zionsville Community Schools superintendent Rebecca Coffman wrote that ZCHS received a call just before 2 p.m. claiming that a bomb had been placed in the school. Police were able to debunk that within an hour, Coffman wrote.

“After a swift response by our local public safety agencies, and a complete search of the ZCHS campus, the threat targeting ZCHS has been deemed non-credible by the Zionsville Police Department,” her message read in part.

Police are investigating the origin of the call, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Zionsville Police Department.
