One of the nation’s premier signal callers is coming off of the board.
Vero Beach quarterback Wonderful “Champ” Monds IV announced his commitment to Notre Dame live on the Pat McAfee show on May 1. He named the Irish out of a final three that included Ohio State and Florida State.
Monds (6-foot-2, 224 pounds) is ranked as the No. 2 quarterback and No. 22 overall player in the USA TODAY Florida Network Top 100. He’s a composite 4-star and No. 20 QB in the nation on 247Sports.
Monds was a freshman starter at Vero Beach, the first under coach Lenny Jankowski. In 16 games, he completed 226 of 331 passes (68.3 completion percentage) for 2,925 yards and 30 touchdowns with five interceptions. He also rushed for 535 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Last season, Monds’ time on the field was limited due to multiple injuries. He appeared in only four games during Vero Beach’s run to the Class 7A state title game.
Monds was originally a consensus 5-star in the 2028 class, but reclassified to the class of 2027 in December.
Notre Dame adds another blue-chip recruit to elite Florida class
Notre Dame now holds four commitments from recruits in the Sunshine State, three of which are ranked inside the top 25 of the USA TODAY Florida Network Top 100.
Monds joins IMG LB Amarri Irvin (No. 12) and St. Thomas Aquinas S Zayden Gamble (No. 15), both of whom are the No. 1 players in the state at their respective positions. The Irish also hold a commitment from 3-star Chaminade-Madonna S John Gay.
