An inmate at the Oneida County Correctional Facility was arrested and charged after injuring a fellow inmate, according to a statement from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.
On April 10, law enforcement says a physical altercation took place in one of the housing unit’s recreation rooms and the victim, who is also an inmate at the correctional facility, suffered a facial injury, which required further medical treatment at an outside medical facility.
Road patrol deputies were made aware of the incident on April 14, and an investigation commenced. Due to the extent of the victim’s injury the case later turned over to a member of the Criminal Investigation Unit.
On April 28, Jason Johnston, 43, was brought to the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building where he was charged with second-degree assault. Johnston was arraigned in CAP Court later that evening and remanded back to the correctional facility without bail.
Johston was originally being held without bail on a burglary charge from Oneida County court and also had a charge of criminal mischief out of Rome city court.
Johnston is due to appear in the town of Whitestown Court at a later date and time to answer to the assault charge.
