The Detroit-based architecture firm Rossetti has been acquired by the global architecture and design firm HOK.
The sale was announced on Tuesday, April 28. The deal’s terms were not disclosed.
A representative for HOK said that Rossetti’s 78 staff members will continue working out of Rossetti’s Detroit office at 160 W. Fort St.
A family-owned firm, Rossetti Associates was started in Detroit in 1969 by Gino Rossetti and designed many landmark structures throughout the years, including:
Outside of Michigan, the firm designed the ongoing renovation of Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City.
The firm departed Detroit for the suburbs in 1991, but returned to the city in 2013, when it moved into the historic Federal Reserve building in downtown that it redesigned for Dan Gilbert’s Bedrock real estate firm.
A news release announcing the sale said that it will expand HOK’s sports, recreation and entertainment design practice. While the combined firm will operate for a time under the name HOK + ROSSETTI, it was not immediately clear Tuesday whether the Detroit office will keep the Rossetti name into the future.
HOK designed:
Matt Rossetti, a son of the firm’s founder, will stay on as director of HOK’s Sports + Recreation + Entertainment practice, the release said.
“This strengthens every dimension of our Sports + Recreation + Entertainment practice,” HOK co-CEO Eli Hoisington said in the release, “while establishing a home in Detroit, a market we believe in deeply. We’re excited to welcome ROSSETTI’s people and give them a global platform for the work they’ve always done best.”
