State champion head coach Jordan Yamamoto is officially out at Dwyer baseball.
The former Major League Baseball pitcher, who spent parts of three seasons on the Miami Marlins and New York Mets MLB rosters, resigned from his position as head coach of the Dwyer baseball program.
“I want to inform you that Coach Jordan Yamamoto has resigned as Head Baseball Coach at William T. Dwyer High School,” school students and parents were informed in an email that Dwyer administration sent out on Tuesday, April 28.
Dwyer lost to Lake Minneola, 12-5, in Monday’s regional semifinal, ending the Panthers’ season.
“We appreciate Coach Yamamoto’s time, commitment, and service to our student-athletes and the baseball program over the past three years,” the letter continues.
Yamamoto turned some heads with early comments ahead of his first year, announcing he wanted to build a program so successful that “people look at us as a Stoneman Douglas, as an IMG, as we’re the top dogs in the state.”
The coach then backed up those words by leading the Panthers to the program’s first state championship in 2024, winning The Palm Beach Post’s Baseball Coach of the Year recognition following his first season with Dwyer.
The Panthers, however, were unable to repeat the wildly successful first-season with the roster Yamamoto inherited in 2024 after previous coach Alex Morales was dismissed.
Across the last three season, Dwyer went a combined 52-28-1 under the former major-leaguer.
According to the school’s email, no coach has yet been named or appointed, though Dwyer is set to begin an imminent search for its next head coach for Panthers baseball.
Yamamoto did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
