49ers top remaining free agent may have new home soon

The fate of former San Francisco 49ers receiver Jauan Jennings has yet to be revealed this offseason. While we know Jennings likely won’t return to the Bay Area after comments from general manager John Lynch and the drafting of De’Zhaun Stribling in the second round, Jennings has been a target of another team: The Miami Dolphins.

Per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins have been interested in Jennings since the start of free agency. However, the Dolphins “don’t have the money to meet his contractual wishes,” and Miami general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan doesn’t have plans to spend a lot of salary cap space until after June 1.

The Dolphins have just $1.8 million in cap space right now, but that number will increase to around $22 million after Bradley Chubb’s release is processed on June 2. They’ll need to spend another $10 million to sign their draft class.

That doesn’t leave a lot for a big Jennings contract, which has reportedly been the biggest sticking point in the receivers’ market this offseason. It’s unclear what exactly Jennings wants in a new deal, but market estimations put his impending contract at around $22.61 million a year. Jennings had a career year in 2024 with 77 receptions for 975 yards and six touchdowns, and he caught 55 receptions for 643 yards and nine touchdowns in 2025.

Jennings would easily be the Dolphins’ No. 1 receiver in 2025 for Malik Willis, but that’s only if he and the team can agree on a new deal. For now, he remains a free agent.
