Two Walmart stores in Rochester are set for a major renovation as part of a broader plan to upgrade locations across New York.
The company announced it will remodel more than 650 stores nationwide, including 23 in New York. Locally, the Rochester store at 1490 Hudson Ave. and the Gates store at 2150 Chili Ave. are on the list.

The remodel is aimed at making shopping faster and more convenient, with updates expected to include:
Walmart also plans to expand its selection of healthier foods and affordable, on-trend items.
Investment in New York
The retailer said it has already invested more than $422 million in store upgrades across New York and donated over $44 million to local nonprofits, helping provide more than 16 million pounds of food statewide.
“Our stores have long been part of communities across New York, and we’re excited to keep investing in their future,” said Annie Walker, senior vice president of Walmart’s East Coast Business Unit.
Work has already been completed at several local stores, including locations at BayTowne Plaza in Penfield, Elm Ridge Center in Greece and in Macedon in Wayne County.
