Transfer McNeese guard has committed to Texas A&M

Texas A&M head coach Bucky McMillan continues to impress in the transfer portal, this time by signing McNeese point guard Tyshawn Archie. Archie earned All-Southland first team and All-Southland Tournament honors for his breakout junior year, where he finished 2nd in the conference in steals, 9th in points, 9th in assists, 8th in FG%, 1st in BPM, 2nd in offensive BPM, and 5th in defensive BPM. Needless to say, Archie dominated the Southland Conference last season.

Hailing from Houston, Archie began his career at Tulsa. He averaged 7.2 PPG, 1.4 APG, 1.4 RPG, and 1.1 STL on 36.8% from deep and 45.7% from the field in 14.6 minutes a night as a freshman, but had a down sophomore season.

Archie transferred to McNeese for his junior season, where he impressed on a Cowboys team that exceeded expectations. Starting for most of the season and playing 25.7 minutes a game, Archie averaged 14.3 PPG, 2.9 APG, 1.9 RPG, and 1.7 STL, shooting 36.9% from three and 43.3% from the field.

Archie projects to join the Aggies as a backup in a truly elite guard rotation. He can get downhill and score at the paint, shoot the three, and pass effectively while still playing hard-nosed defense on the other end.
