Emerald Coast Roofscapes nailed down two victories on the opening night of the city of Destin’s Lower Division Coed Softball Tournament at Morgan Sports Center on April 22. ECR beat The GAB Spot 22-19 and then beat Destin Commons 19-13.
In the first game, ECR came from behind to beat The GAB Spot. At the end of two innings, ECR trailed 10-7 and then 15-7 at the end of three innings.
In the top of the fourth, ECR scored five and then four in the top of the fifth to go up 16-15. The GAB Spot evened the score with one run in the bottom of the fifth.
In the sixth inning, each team scored two runs to keep the game deadlocked.
In the top of the seventh, ECR scored four runs and then held The GAB Spot to one run for the win.
Caige Hefner led ECR with seven RBIs on an inside-the-park home run, two triples and a single. Seth Goins hit four singles for two RBIs, and Jolie Kremser connected for a hit.
Kevin Jones was top for The GAB Spot with three doubles and three singles for three RBIs. Rachel Jones hit two singles for four RBIs, and Chris Poole connected for two doubles and a single for two RBIs.
In game two, ECR beat Destin Commons 19-13.
This time ECR took the early lead putting up five runs in the first and five in the third for a 10-2 lead.
In the fourth, ECR scored one more run. In the bottom half, Destin Commons answered with the 10-run limit for a 12-11 advantage.
In the fifth, Destin Commons picked up one more run for a 13-11 lead.
ECR pulled it out in the last two innings, with five runs in the sixth and three in the seventh.
Caige Hefner led ECR with a triple, double and three singles for five RBIs. Gordan Welch hit three singles for two RBIs, and Stacia Scollo singled.
Josh Shankland doubled and singled for four RBIs for Destin Commons. Collin Gray and Kelsey Sterner each hit two singles.
In other first night action:
Legendary Marine 22, Fudpucker’s Beachside Bar and Grill 15
Legendary Marine stepped out to an 8-3 lead in the first two innings and never looked back.
By the end of four innings, Legendary led 15-9.
Top batters for Legendary were Wright Eggena with two triples and two singles for six RBIs. Will Binford with three singles for two RBIs, and Avery Moore, a homer and a double for five RBIs.
John Faulkner led Fudpucker’s with a homer, two triples and a single for six RBIs. Belle Revallo hit two doubles for an RBI, and Alivia Hoenske doubled and singled.
Round two play – April 29
Game 4: 6:30 p.m. – The GAB Spot vs. Fudpucker’s.
Game 5: 6:30 p.m. – Legendary Marine vs. ECR.
Game 6: 8 p.m. – Destin Commons vs. winner of Game 4.
