Franklin High School lockdown lifted, one person detained, EPISD says

One person was detained following an incident that placed Franklin High School in a security lockdown in West El Paso.

Franklin High went into a lockdown on Thursday morning, April 23, “due to an incident in the area and reports that it may have carried over to the campus,” the El Paso Independent School District said in a brief statement issued by media coordinator Ernie Chacon.

EPISD police and other law enforcement officers responded to the “incident,” which was not described further by EPISD.

The district said that one person was detained as part of an ongoing investigation, though why the person was detained was not disclosed.

The lockdown was lifted later that morning and “students and staff remain safe,” the district stated. Franklin is located at 900 Resler Drive on the West Side.

“We thank our students and community for adhering to SEE SOMETHING SAY SOMETHING and reporting any concerns and to law enforcement for ensuring the safety of our community,” EPISD added.

Anyone with information on criminal activity in schools may anonymously call Crime Stoppers of El Paso at 915-566-8477 (TIPS).
