Gas leak at mobile home in Amarillo prompts evacuations

The Amarillo Fire Department said crews responded around 11 a.m. Thursday, April 23 to a reported gas leak in Amarillo.

AFD said a leak was reported at a mobile home at 8530 S. Western, and crews found that a gas line had been cut.

Mobile homes to the south of the area were evacuated for safety reasons, according to the report. Out of precaution, a hazmat team was called to the scene to monitor the situation.

Atmos Energy arrived and was successful in getting the gas shut off, and they are currently working to make repairs in the severed line.
