Police: Richmond man forced way into ex-girlfriend's home, bit her

RICHMOND, IN — Richmond police say a local man forced his way into his former girlfriend’s apartment and attacked her, at one point biting her in the stomach.

Zachary Ryan Hull, 34, was charged on Monday, April 20, in Wayne Superior Court 2 with burglary, a Level 3 felony carrying up to 16 years in prison, and domestic battery, a Level 5 felony with a maximum six-year sentence.

According to an affidavit, Hull went to the woman’s apartment, along Dillon Drive, on the early morning of Friday, April 17, forced his way in and during a struggle picked her up and slammed her down, causing her to strike a recliner, a table and the floor.

He also allegedly bit her in the stomach, the court document said.

The woman, taken to the emergency room of Reid Hospital, told officers Hull had been her on-again, off-again boyfriend for about seven years, and had moved out of her apartment in September or October.

More recently, she said, he has been living in a wooded area near the apartment complex and harassing her, leading to him to being banned from the property.

In addition to the bite wound, an officer reported, the woman had abrasions and scratches on her hands, chest, right knee, stomach, right elbow and left shoulder.

Hull was later taken into custody after he was found walking near the apartment complex.

The Richmond man reportedly told police when he went to the woman’s apartment, he first tried to give her a hug, and then bit her.

“He could not explain why he bit her,” the officer wrote. Hull denied actually entering the apartment.

Hull was being held in the Wayne County Jail under a $75,000 bond. An initial hearing in his case is set for April 30.

The affidavit indicated the Richmond man was previously convicted of domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury in a case involving the same woman.

Court records also indicate he has been convicted of armed robbery and resisting law enforcement.
