A 15-year-old boy was arrested early Monday after crashing a stolen pickup on Detroit’s west side, officials said.
A Michigan State Police trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a Ford pickup truck that had been reported stolen, according to authorities. The trooper encountered the vehicle while on patrol at about 5 a.m. on Monday on Outer Drive near Schoolcraft Road, they said.

As the officer was reporting the last known location of the suspect’s pickup truck, he saw the vehicle crash into another, police said.
He immediately responded and found the pickup truck in flames with the driver still inside, detectives said.
They said the trooper pulled the suspect from the burning vehicle and rendered first aid.
Detroit police and medics arrived, officials said.
“The 15-year-old suspect was transported to a hospital for a minor head injury,” Michigan State Police First Lt. Mike Shaw said on X. “While at the hospital, he was apprehended for possession of a stolen car and failing to stop for police. He was released to his mother pending prosecutor review and juvenile court proceedings.”
