The Chicago Bears are picking up offensive tackle Darnell Wright’s fifth-year option, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. Wright was the team’s No. 10 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and has developed into one of the best right tackles in the league.
Wright was the inaugural first-round pick of the Ryan Poles era following the blockbuster trade of the No. 1 overall pick with the Carolina Panthers. The Bears were set to pick at No. 9 overall before trading one spot down with the Philadelphia Eagles, who selected defensive tackle Jalen Carter. In 2025, Wright played in 16 games and allowed three sacks, three hits, and 19 total pressures. He earned Second-Team All-Pro honors as he continues to ascend in his career.
The expectation is that the Bears will look to sign Wright to a long-term extension at some point, but at the very least, he will be under contract for the next two seasons. This is the first time the Bears have picked up a fifth-year option for a first-round pick since Roquan Smith.
