The Iowa City community is still reeling after a shooting over the weekend near the University of Iowa campus.
A large fight broke out in downtown Iowa City early Sunday, April 19, that sparked gunfire and led to several injuries. The Iowa City Police Department has identified several persons of interest tied to the shooting, but no arrests have been made.

Where was the Iowa City shooting?
A fight and subsequent shooting broke out in the 100 block of East College Street, near the intersection with Clinton Street, in the Pedestrian Mall.
Iowa City officers allegedly heard gunfire when they arrived on the scene of the fight around 1:45 a.m. on Sunday, according to an news release from the Iowa City Police Department.
The University of Iowa issued a “HAWK ALERT” at 2:03 a.m. Sunday to inform students that first responders were on scene, noting “confirmed victims.” Hawk Alert is one of the University of Iowa’s emergency notification methods, which sends out emergency calls, texts and emails.
Was the shooting at the University of Iowa?
The area near Clinton and East College Street is home to several bars, including Brother’s Bar and Grill, Donnelly’s Pub, TCB Pool Hall, Reunion Brewery and the Stuffed Olive.
The Pedestrian Mall, widely known as the Ped Mall, is a popular area in downtown Iowa City, a few blocks from the University of Iowa’s main campus. It boasts several restaurants, shops, bars and hotels.
How many people were injured during Sunday’s shooting in Iowa City?
ICPD initially said “multiple victims” were taken to area hospitals “to be treated for wounds suffered in the shooting.” The police department released more information later Sunday morning, stating that five people were injured, noting one of the wounded was in “critical condition,” while the four others were “stable.”
The Iowa City Press-Citizen later reported that three University of Iowa students were injured in the shooting.
“While we await additional information, I am thinking about these students and their families, friends, and all the people who care about them,” University of Iowa President Barbara Wilson said in a statement released Sunday morning. “I am holding them close in my thoughts, along with everyone in the community who is hurting or feeling shaken right now.”
Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds called the shooting a “senseless act of violence” in a statement issued shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday. She added that she and her husband are praying for the victims and their families.

The Iowa City Police Department has identified five individuals who they believe are tied to the Sunday morning shooting. The ICPD released a photo of the five males, each wearing a hooded sweatshirt. Police did not provide any physical descriptions of the individuals the post called “persons of interest.”
