Springfield shooting leaves one in critical condition, suspect loose

SPRINGFIELD— A shooting in Springfield left a victim in critical condition and a suspect on the loose.

A release from the Springfield Police Department says that on April 16 it received a report of a shooting victim who had been taken to Ascension Sacred Heart Bay. Investigators who responded to the hospital learned the victim sustained gunshot wounds to the hand and head.

Information they received placed the shooting at a home in the 2900 block of Avon Road in Springfield. Officers who arrived to the home found spent and live shell casings on the front porch.

The release says that officers forced entry to conduct a safety check and “observed a large amount of blood” as well as other evidence of the shooting in the home.

The police department obtained a search warrant and is processing the scene.

SPD says the victim is in stable but critical condition at the hospital. Investigators believe the shooting to have been the result of a domestic dispute.

The police department obtained a warrant charging the suspect with attempted murder. SPD is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them at (850) 872-7545.

“The Springfield Police Department thanks the Panama City Police Department and the Bay County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance,” reads the release.

Assistant Police Chief Russell Voyles told the News Herald that the department will be able to release more information once the suspect is in custody.
