Cam Coleman speaks to media for first time since transferring to Texas

Cam Coleman was the crown jewel in this year’s NCAA Transfer Portal. The wide receiver from Auburn picked Texas over Texas A&M and Alabama. For the first time since signing with Longhorns football in January, the big playmaker addressed the media.

Coleman has been the Tigers primary offensive threat for two season, accumulating 93 receptions, 1,306 yards, 13 touchdowns and 14 yards per catch. In 2025, Coleman had 56 grabs for 708 yards, five touchdowns and averaged 12.6 yards per catch.

Coleman answered a wide range of questions on Wednesday after Texas practice. First, he was asked why he picked Texas over the Aggies and the Tide in the first place.

“Just a lot of prayer,” Coleman said. “A lot of thought. A lot of time with my family. And really just find the best opportunity for me. Really just what they’ve done in the past. What they’ve got rolling right going on here, so just a really good fit for me.”

Obviously, a major attraction to the Texas program for a wide receiver is quarterback Arch Manning, who was key in recruiting the Alabama native. Coleman says the two are already building great chemistry.

“That’s who is ultimately going to be getting me the ball,” he said. “So really, we have been building that relationship. It’s been good. Just really been building chemistry every day. Really just watching film. He tells me where he wants me to be on routes. Really just building chemistry every day.”

For his part, Manning thrilled to have someone with great ability, but also wants to keep improving.

“He’s an elite player,” Manning said Wednesday. “And he wants to be good, which is the most encouraging thing. He’s a hard worker. I’m excited.”

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian has seen the connection the two are making and he says it puts his mind to ease heading into the fall.

“I can see the continuity with Cam,” Sark said Tuesday after practice. “Which we knew was going to be important. You know, I think he threw him two touchdowns today. So it’s that level of comfort for me feels better. I’m not so concerned in the fall.”

Coleman says Sark’s offense is definitely more complex than what he was used to at Auburn.

“Running more routes, for sure,” he said.

Coleman says his ultimate goal for transferring to Texas is to win a national title.

“It’s on my bucket list to win a National Championship,” Coleman said. “I’m going to do what I can to win help us win a National Championship.”

As for any difference between Auburn, Alabama and Austin, Texas, Coleman already sounds like an Austinite.

“The traffic, man.”
