Roundup of Monroe County Region athletic events for Tuesday, April 14

OTTAWA LAKE – The Tri-County Conference track and field race in recent years has been like the NASCAR season.

The biggest event comes first.

Just as NASCAR opens with the Daytona 500, the TCC gets started with its two best teams going head-to-head.

That key opening statement went to Erie Mason as the boys and girls both got started by beating Whiteford on Tuesday, April 14.

The girls pulled out a 75-65 win while the boys posted a 79-58 victory.

Guillana Nastale led the girls, taking the 100 and 200-meter dashes – the two events she won last spring at the Division 3 state finals.

She also was part of the winning 800 and 1,600 relays.

Jaylyn Horton won the 1,600 and ,3200 and led a sweep of the top three places in the 1,600 with Riley England and Tani Neff.

Paige Konrad ruled the long jump and was part of the 800 relay.

Other Eagle winners were Aubrey Icoangelli (high jump) and Lexie Carner (high hurdles).

Mason’s boys were led by Lincoln Murbach, who won both hurdle races and the 100 meters. He ran a personal-best :15.82 in the high hurdles.

Weston Albright pulled off the unusual double of the 3,200 meters and long jump.

Joseph Colaluca (800) and Caleb Healey (1,600) also won events for Mason and Healey ran with Jason Cousino, Brayden Hincher and Porter Ravory on the winning 3,200 relay.

Whiteford was led by Antonio Nachtrab, Nate Andrews, Jess Saylor, Brody Hillard, Brek Ruddy and Ryan Thomas.

Mason and Whiteford both swept Britton Deerfield, the third member of the tri meet.

TUESDAY’S TOP PERFORMERS

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

Grace Raymond and Alyson Ost, Summerfield: Both won two individual events and ran on a pair of winning relays as the Bulldogs opened the Tri-County Conference season by beating Sand Creek 93-44, Morenci 100-35 and Lenawee Christian 117-10. Raymond won the 400 and high jump and Ost ruled the 800 and 1,600. Both helped the 1,600 and 3,200 relays to victory. Makenzie Wolfe (3,200), Elena Miller (shot-put) and Makenna Shipe (discus) also won individual events.

Rose Tillman, New Boston Huron: Recorded personal bests to win both the 100 meters (:14.15) and long jump (14-4.25) to lead Huron past Airport. The Chiefs got hurdle wins from Julia Stasak (highs) and Avery Turk (lows) and swept all four relays. Airport’s Ella Baker won the three longest races of the day and Casey Vey (200, 400) and Olivia Kemp (throws) were double winners.

Adela Illes and Bella LaFountain, SMCC: Both won a pair of events during a 93-30 triumph over Jefferson. Illes captured the 100 and 200 and LaFountain the 800 and 1,600. Also winning form the Kestrels were Carly Genaw (400), Ava Lucarelli (low hurdles), Maddi Scharf (shot-put), Angie Illes (long jump) and Olivia Beaudrie (long jump). Jefferson victories came from Claire Miller (3,200), Sophia Layne (high hurdles) and Courtney Peterson (discus).

Corinna Aulph, Monroe: Hit a personal-best of 15-11 in the long jump and a season-best 4-8 in the high jump during an 85-38 loss to Ann Arbor Skyline. Monroe won both throws with Coryssa McCray (shot-put) and Delani Willey (discus).

Jada Stines, and Amerie Wilson, Milan: Each claimed two individual events and were part of a winning relay to propel Milan past Riverview 72-50. Stines won the high jump and 100 and Wilson’s victories were in the 800 and 1,600. Other wins came from Madison Lancaster (long jump), Mary-Kate Wayne (shot-put), Addison Ostrom (discus) and Angelina Wilson (400).

Reagan Higdon, Flat Rock: Won the 100 and 200 dashes and ran on the winning 800 relay team during a 75-49 loss to Grosse Ile. Branna Sexton swept the throws and Riley Chevalier was first in the 3,200.

Brielyn Snyr-Duenas, Gibraltar Carlson: Took first in the 200 meters and ran on the winning 400 relay as Carlson scored 66.5 points to finish behind Allen Park (103.5) and ahead of Taylor (3). Other wins came from Ada Cain (800) and Braelynn Austin (low hurdles).

Helen Brady, Bedford: Ruled the shot-put as the Mules beat Ann Arbor Huron 63-42 and lost to Saline 83-22

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

Luke Dulecki, New Boston Huron: Earned victories in the four longest runs of the day to lead an 86-42 victory over Airport. He was first in the individual 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters and ran a leg on the winning 3,200 relay. Austin Krause swept the hurdles. Other winners for the Chiefs were Jamil Brown (100), Cole Druyor (400), Ben Holbrook (long jump) and Cayden Kilby (high jump). Airport took the top three places in both throws with Holden Otter (discus) and Jaxson Nichols (shot-put) taking first. Anthony Tamahkyarov was the champion in the 200.

Zamir Austin, Monroe: Won the 100, 200, high jump and long jump during an 81-55 loss to Ann Arbor Skyline. He had personal-best times in both the 100 (11.44) and 200 (:23.68). Teammate Torran Simmons won both throws.

Braeden Lerette, Milan: Won the long jump and both hurdle races and also ran with Landon Talladay, Dylan Nichols and Max Green on the winning 1,600 relay during a 74-53 verdict over Riverview. Mason Martin was first in the 1,600.

Josh Hargraeves, Jefferson: Placed first in the 400 meters and long jump during a 93-35 win over St. Mary Catholic Central. Other wins for the Bears came from Zane Knezevich (200), Orion Galloway (800), Rocky Dodson (high hurdles), Trey Oldenburg (lows hurdles), Logan Godlewski (discus) and Maddex Shotwell (high jump). Christian Craanen was a double winner for SMCC in the 1,600 and 3,200 while Cole Reinhardt took the 100 and Vince Harris the shot-put.

Jacob Stanislawski, Flat Rock: Captured wins in the 1,600 and 3,200 during a 67-60 loss to Grosse Ile. Other individual winners for the Rams were Calvin Haydamacker (long jump), Gabe Sanchez (shot-put), Da”Vion Moore (discus) and Braylen Hoover (high hurdles).

Masyn Moran, Bedford: Ruled the shot-put and discus as the Mules nipped Ann Arbor Huron 59-55 and fell 67-47 to Saline. Bedford took the first four places in the shot and the top five in the discus with Moran getting support from Sawyer Pienta, Waylon Napier, Everett Wingate and Parker Winslow. Cain Cole was the winner in the pole vault.

Reece Wieckowski III, Gibraltar Carlson: Raced to victory in the 100 and 200 meters and ran a leg on the winning 400 relay as the Marauders scored 98 points to beat Allen Park (49) and Taylor (28). Sam Przytula doubled up in the throws and Wyatt DelValle (800), Nicholas Pak (high hurdles), Zachary Peterson (high jump) and Noah Latzy (long jump) also won.

PREP SOFTBALL

Olivia McMahon, Monroe: Earned both pitching wins and racked up four hits in a 12-2, 13-3 sweep of Belleville. Delaynee Miller led the offense with five hits, two of Soffia Elmer’s four hits were doubles and Jozie Willey and Sierra Daniels finished with three hits each for the 6-0 Trojans.

Alex Haws, Ida: Went 3-for-4 and picked up the pitching win in a 10-5 verdict over Blissfield. Amelia McCoy added two hits. Ida dropped the first game 5-3 despite two hits apiece by Karlee Walentowski and Lilah Derian.

Abby Marek, Dundee: Doubled and drove in the only run of the day as Dundee dipped to 0-7 by falling 10-1 and 16-0 to Clinton.

PREP BASEBALL

Cam Riggs, Ida: Drove in two runs and combined with Hunter Hemelgarn on a five-inning no hitter in an 11-0 victory over Blissfield. The Blue Streaks dropped the first game 8-7 despite two hits by Hemelgarn.

Brayden Mason, Dundee: Went 3-for-3 to spark a 7-3 win over Clinton. Angelo Graves added two hits. Clinton took the other game 4-3 despite a game-tying double by Mason.

GIRLS TENNIS

Kelsey Brubaker and Alaina Brubaker, Milan: Took the first two singles flights in straight sets during a 6-2 victory over New Boston Huron. The 2-2 Big Reds swept the doubles with Annika Koch-Aubree Higgins, Maria Scuccimarri-Lana Pacholke, Charlotte Finch-Ava Thornton and Dakota Ludwig- Evelyn Gill, Simone Cicotte and Lilah Otter won for Huron.

Skylar Warren, Monica Steinmetz and Brooklyn Cowell, Gibraltar Carlson: Won singles matches in a 5-3 loss to Wyandotte Roosevelt.

BOYS LACROSSE

Max Flint, SMCC: Poured in nine goals during a 14-6 triumph over Detroit Cass Tech. Jayce Dupras chipped in a goal and five assists. Brenton Carter nothced two goals and Gabe Angove contributed three assists.
