Here’s what we know:

Where was the crash? County Road 315, not far from Northeast 90th Street Road, near Fort McCoy. The two-lane roadway has thick woods on opposite sides.

Which agency is investigating the crash? Florida Highway Patrol.

What time was the crash? Marion County Fire Rescue officials said they were dispatched at 11:26 a.m. and arrived at 11:37 a.m. The victim, a man, was pronounced dead at 11:38 a.m. Fire rescue officials had to extricate two of the three occupants from the vehicles.

What types of vehicles were involved in the crash? A Toyota Camry and a Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck.

What happened? FHP officials said the Toyota, driven by a 24-year-old man from Lake Mary, was southbound on CR 315. The pickup, driven by a 62-year-old man from Fort McCoy, with his son as a passenger, was northbound on the same road.

Troopers said the car entered the pickup’s lane and they collided. The passenger died at the location. The victim was a 21-year-old man from Fort McCoy.

Both drivers were taken to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital. The Toyota driver was in serious condition and the second driver is in critical condition, authorities said. It’s unknown where either driver was headed at the time of the crash, officials said.

Motorists traveling north on State Road 40 and attempting to turn left onto CR 315 were detoured. Drivers along CR 315 were detoured at 90th Street Road. The roadway was re-opened about 2:30 p.m.

This traffic fatality was the 21st for the FHP so far this year in Marion County. The agency investigates traffic deaths in the county and nearby Levy County. The number does not include traffic deaths in the cities of Dunnellon, Belleview or Ocala.

The number is higher than this time last year. In 2025, the 15th traffic death was recorded on March 29. The next traffic death was not until April 18, officials said.
