Fire officials seek suspect in arson near west Lubbock apartment

Lubbock fire investigators are asking the public’s help identifying a person caught by security cameras Wednesday afternoon setting a fire that threatened a west Lubbock apartment complex.

Lubbock fire crews responding to a 4 p.m. call about a fire near an apartment complex in the 2300 block of West Loop 289, encountered heavy smoke coming from the rear of the property and found a fire spreading on a patch of grass and a fence line, according to a Lubbock Fire Rescue news release.

Fire crews quickly extingshed the blaze before it could damage any structures, the release states.

Fire Marshals found security camera footage from the area that showed a person intentionally igniting the grass before fleeing the scene, the release states.
