Unidentified skeletal remains found in Peoria County. Here's what we know

Unidentified skeletal remains were found in a wooden area southwest of Peoria on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Chris Watkins said that at 4:45 p.m., deputies received a report of skeletal remains found in the 1500 block of South Crest Drive southwest of Peoria. When they arrived, they found the remains and secured the scene.

The remains are being turned over to the Peoria County Coroner’s Office for further examination and identification.

The sheriff’s office is continuing its investigation into the remains.
