Marshall McFadden spent four years in the NFL, including a one-year stint with the St. Louis Rams in 2014. The former All-MEAC linebacker didn’t make much noise as a pro but he’s found a new calling in a different sport.
Sports on Prime shared a video of McFadden’s job as a jackman on a NASCAR pit crew, and he makes the job look easy. He started out working for multiple different pit crews and most recently, he’s been on the crew for Ross Chastain at Trackhouse Racing.
McFadden got his start as a volunteer at Chip Ganassi Racing, according to Sports Illustrated, which opened the door for him to get a job on a pit crew.
As for what about the job appealed to him, it was competing and being part of a team again.
“I mean, all I knew was just working with a team of 11 guys all my life,” he told SI in an interview. “The only thing I knew was to compete. And this gave me a reason to still get up in the morning and compete. And I just love being with different people from different parts of the world. It was just great. It gave me that locker-room feel again. And you have your ups and downs. I have that good stress factor, when you gotta figure something out and there’s no room for error. It was great, man. It was all worth it, for sure.”
McFadden seems to be thoroughly enjoying his new career on a pit crew after transitioning out of football.
