Novi newborn with wounds 'consistent with an animal attack' dies

Novi — A five-day-old infant was found dead with puncture wounds consistent with an animal attack at a Novi home Tuesday morning, police said.

Novi Police Commander Bob Manar said officers and firefighters were called at 8:28 a.m. to a home in the 42000 block of Liberte Drive near 13 Mile and Novi roads for a report of an unresponsive infant.

“A family member reported finding the infant injured with puncture wounds,” Manar said. “Those wounds appear to be consistent with an animal attack.”

The commander said the infant, a five-day-old female, has since been pronounced deceased.

He said he couldn’t say if the girl’s family owned a dog, but confirmed that a dog was removed from the home.

“The incident is under investigation,” Manar said.
