Bart Torvik is high on Michigan State basketball heading into 2026-27 season

One of the most notable way-too-early rankings for the 2026-27 college basketball season has been released, and the Spartans are listed near the top of country.

The early look ahead rankings from Bart Torvik have been released and to no surprise Michigan State landed in the top 10. But the Spartans weren’t as high as some others have them, coming in at No. 7 in the country.

Michigan State has been listed as a regular top 10 team in the way-too-early polls this spring — I don’t think I’ve seen a single one where they aren’t ranked in the top 10. So this spot is no surprise for Michigan State, but it’s interesting to see them near the bottom of the top 10.

We have a long way to go before the next college basketball season is here, but it’s clear that the Spartans are going to enter the season as one of the top teams in the country. Let’s hope they can live up to the hype, considering the Final Four is in their backyard in Detroit next April.
