Five wounded in Port Aransas beach shooting March 14

The Port Aransas Police Department is investigating a beach shooting that wounded five people on March 14.

The shooting occurred at about 11:40 p.m. March 14 near beach marker 20. A preliminary investigation indicates that an altercation occurred between two groups of individuals on the beach, according to a March 15 news release from the Port Aransas Police Department.

All five wounded people were taken to local hospitals for treatment. The news release said their conditions were not known.

Police took three people into custody, and they were questioned by investigators on March 15, according to the release.

The Nueces County Sheriff’s Office inmate feed shows that Ernesto Castillo, 17, of San Antonio, was in custody at Nueces County Jail as of March 16 on five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
