A few days after an attacker rammed his truck through the doors of Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, the synagogue put out a statement on social media with details about how it will move forward.
The building, located at 5725 Walnut Lake Rd. in West Bloomfield Twp., will be closed for the immediate future due to the extent of the damage, according to the statement that was signed by the Temple Israel leadership team.
When the attacker rammed his truck into the building, the truck’s engine compartment caught fire and started the blaze at the synagogue. There was a large amount of commercial fireworks and gasoline in the back of the truck, federal investigators said.
The post also said that Temple Israel programming is suspended through March 17.
Temple Israel’s leadership team said it’s finalizing arrangements for a temporary office location and is in the process of finding temporary locations for the Susan & Harold Loss Early Childhood Center and the Tyner Religious School.
The post said that Temple Israel leaders will send out volunteer opportunities once they have a clearer idea of immediate needs. They also said the best way to donate is directly through Temple Israel’s website at www.temple-israel.org.
“Thank you again for your incredible support and understanding as we work through the challenges of proving that Temple Israel is not just a building!,” the post said. “Temple Israel is you — Temple Israel is us working together toward a common and sacred goal! May we continue to go from strength to strength together.”
