A woman was killed in a head-on crash in Thermal that left three others with serious injuries on Friday, March 13, according to the California Highway Patrol.
First responders received a call shortly after 2 p.m. regarding a major collision between two vehicles in the 58000 block of Fillmore Street near Avenue 58. Officials later reported that a Honda Accord with a male driver, a female passenger and a minor in the back seat was travelling south on Fillmore Street when it drove into the northbound lane and collided with a Toyota Camry with a male driver.
All four people involved in the crash were transported to Desert Regional Medical Center with traumatic injuries, with the woman and minor taken via air ambulance. The woman, who was not wearing a seatbelt when the crash occurred, was later pronounced dead at the Palm Springs hospital, according to Officer David Torres, a CHP spokesperson.
Fillmore Street was closed in the area Friday afternoon, and it was reopened later in the day.
The California Highway Patrol’s Indio branch was investigating the collision.
