Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy barely make cut at Players Championship

We’re monitoring the cut line at the 2026 Players Championship to see which PGA Tour stars could make and miss the cut at TPC Sawgrass.

The two top players in the World Golf Rankings didn’t dazzle in their first rounds. Scottie Scheffler enters Round 2 at even par, continuing his troubling trend of shaky opening days, though the two-time winner at The Players has yet to miss a cut. Rory McIlroy, the defending champ withdrew from last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational with a back injury, struggled to rebound from some early bogeys. He comes into today’s round at 2 over.

Brooks Koepka, making his return to TPC Sawgrass after defecting from LIV Golf, also enters the day at even par. Si Woo Kim, who won The Players in 2017, needs a strong second round to qualify for the weekend, as do Shane Lowry, Jake Knapp, Aaron Rai and Max Greyserman.

Will Scottie Scheffler miss the Players Championship cut?

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler shot even par in the first round and got off to a good start in Round 2 with a birdie. But he bogeyed Nos. 4 and 7 to put him at 1 over through the front nine, right on the projected cut line. If he and the cut line hold steady, Scheffler would make the cut.

Will Rory McIlroy miss the cut at Players Championship?

Defending champion Rory McIlroy started his second round with a birdie but fell right back with a bogey on the par-4 No. 13. He closed his second round with a birdie on No. 9 to go 1 under for the day, and at 1 over for the tournament, he should be safe from the cut line.

How many players make the cut at Players Championship?

Of the 123 golfers who entered the tournament, 65 are guaranteed to make the cut and play this weekend. That number can grow to account for ties, and players within 10 strokes of the lead also get to play the weekend. Last year, 72 players made the cut at 1 over.
