The Dough Company, a bakery that recently opened at 12 E. Market St. in Corning, is fulfilling a longtime dream of owner Kristen Kerr.
Kerr previously launched The Dough Co. out of her home on Murphy Road, delivering her products to homes and businesses around the Corning area. Now, her micro bakery specializing in sourdough breads and bagels has taken the next step and has its own space in the city.
“I’ve always wanted to own a bakery,” Kerr said. “It really feels good to be here doing this.”
Kerr recently purchased Laurabelle’s Cupcakery from owner Tarrah Seaver, which operated at 12 E. Market St. since 2020.
“I worked at (Laurabelle’s Cupcakery) since October 2020. I really enjoyed my time here and am looking forward to the future,” Kerr said. “I was so happy when Tarrah asked me if I was interested in buying the business and I jumped on that.”
Kerr said she changed the name to The Dough Company, updated the look and the bakery, adding new fresh pastries, sourdough bread, bagels and coffees, just to name a few. The business also has the old staples like cupcakes, cookies, scones and custom cakes, including wedding cakes and dessert spreads for events — “baked from scratch with love every day.”
The Dough Company hours are now 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
“We are thrilled to see the bakery continue under Kristen’s leadership with The Dough Company,” said Catherine Price, executive director of the Corning Gaffer District. “She has been part of this space and this neighborhood for years, and if you’ve had her bread, you know how talented she is.
“She has been part of the Laurabelle’s team for years, and her sourdough is incredible. It’s the best kind of transition that keeps our downtown vibrant.”
Price said Laurabelle’s has been a wonderful part of Market Street thanks to the passion and dedication Tarrah Seaver brought to the business, and she will absolutely be missed in Corning’s downtown community.
Seaver spent six years with the business.
“It’s where I grew — not just as a business owner, but as a person,” Seaver stated in a goodbye message. “It taught me resilience, patience, leadership, and belief in myself when things felt overwhelming. It gave me relationships I will treasure forever — customers who became friends, and a community that showed up again and again to support us.
“To every single person who walked through our doors, placed an order, shared a post, recommended us, or simply cheered us on — thank you. You helped build this dream.
“While this chapter is closing for me, I’m so excited for what’s ahead for the bakery. It’s going into new hands, and I truly hope you continue to show it the same love and support you’ve shown me.”
