With a few spots still up for grabs in the 2027 class, Longhorns football has been busy on the recruiting trail. On Sunday, they got encouraging news from one of their targets, three-star prospect Jhadyn Nelson. The talented linebacker committed to an unofficial visit on April fourth and an official visit in June.
Currently, the Houston native is ranked as the 33rd best player in his class by 247Sports. They also rank him as the 56th-best player from Texas. Due to his play, Nelson has received offers from SMU, Texas Tech, Houston, Kansas State, Ohio State, Auburn, and TCU. That list should continue to grow the longer he stays on the market.
The heavy interest in Nelson’s services comes as no surprise, given the numbers he has put up. The Langham Creek High star recorded 59 total tackles and three sacks during the 2025 campaign. He also added one interception to his resume while appearing in 10 games. It was an encouraging sign, as the year before, Nelson recorded 42 tackles in eight games.
If Nelson were to join the Longhorns, he would be a valuable depth piece for head coach Steve Sarkisian. At the moment, the Longhorns’ only commitments on defense in the 2027 class are Cameron Hall, Cade Haug, and Karnell James. Adding Nelson to that group would give Texas a boost.
Although Nelson is a player to watch, he is not the only prospect on the Longhorns radar. They have also made offers to four-star recruits such as David Segarra, SaRod Baker, Kesean Bowman, Trenton Yancey, Jaxon Dollar, and Ismael Camara. With those players still weighing their options, it could be a busy next few weeks in Austin.
Regardless of how the Longhorns’ recruiting efforts go, their focus will be to make an impression on Nelson that he will never forget. When he is on campus, Sarkisian and his staff will show him what his future in Austin could hold.
