Wall girls basketball vs Central Heights score, live updates, highlights

The Wall girls basketball team is back in the state championship game, aiming for its third title in program history.

The Lady Hawks won state titles in 2014 and 2016, but have not been back to the championship game since. Wall (36-3) will face Central Heights (32-5) in the 3A Division II final at 1 p.m. Friday at the Alamodome.

The Lady Hawks downed three top-10 state-ranked teams on their way to San Antonio — No. 2 Coahoma, No. 3 Idalou and No. 6 Paradise. Wall has 11 wins over state-ranked teams heading into their matchup against the No. 24 Lady Devils.

2:20 — The Lady Hawks hold on for their third state championship, beating Central Heights 49-34.

2:19 — Central Heights hits its second 3-pointer of the night and takes a timeout. Wall leads 49-34 with 29 seconds left in the game.

2:18 — Brynlee Graves hits two free throws after being fouled and the Lady Hawks go up 48-31 with 40 seconds left.

2:15 p.m. — Lady Hawks have gone a bit cold from the field for the past 2:33 of play. They still lead 46-28 with 1:25 left.

2:10 p.m. — Lopez with another 3-pointer and Wall takes a 44-24 lead with 4:41 left in the fourth quarter.

2:08 p.m. — Lady Hawks take a 44-21 lead on a 3-pointer from Lopez. She’s the first player in double-digits with 10 points.

2:05 p.m. — Wall ends the third quarter with a 3-pointer from Kylee Holik and leads 39-21. Wall is shooting 7-of-14 from beyond the 3-point arc, while Central Heights is 0-of-12.

2:00 p.m. — Wall takes a timeout leading 33-19 with 2:20 left in the third. Central Heights is in the bonus.

1:58 p.m. — Covert hits a 3-pointer to give the Lady Hawks a 15-point lead. They lead 33-18 with less than three minutes in the third quarter.

1:57 p.m. — Kenzie Covert with a layup after a missed free throw. The Lady Hawks lead 30-17 with 3:13 left in the third quarter.

1:54 p.m. — Central Heights takes a full 60-second timeout after a missed 3-pointer with 4:01 left in the third quarter.

1:52 p.m. — Central Heights with a 4-0 run out of the timeout. Most of Lady Devil’s points are coming from free throws, where they are 7-of-11. Lady Hawks lead 28-17.

1:50 p.m. — Wall starts the third on a 5-2 run. Central Heights calls a timeout after a McKenzie Lopez 3-pointer. Lady Hawks lead 28-15 with 5:25 in the third quarter.

1:45 p.m. — Central Heights starts with possession as we are underway in the second half.

1:36 p.m. — Despite some offensive struggles, the Lady Hawks are shooting 38% from the field and 38% from behind the arc. Their defense is keeping Central Heights at bay, forcing 12 turnovers and hauling in 17 rebounds. The Lady Devils are 5-of-23 from the field and 0-of-7 from beyond the arc.

1:32 p.m. — Wall ends the first half on a 7-2 run and leads 23-13. The Lady Hawks’ defense is showing up again, holding the Lady Devils scoreless for nearly four minutes at the end of the second quarter.

1:26 p.m. — Lady Devils outscoring Wall 5-2 in the second quarter. Lady Hawks have been held to zero points in the past 2-minutes and 41-seconds of game time. Wall calls a timeout with 3:46 in the second quarter.

1:17 p.m. — Wall leads Central Heights 14-4 after the first quarter. Lady Hawks are 6-of-11 from the floor and have forced 11 turnovers. Lady Devils have the rebound advantage 11-7.
