The new Walmart Supercenter is celebrating its grand opening on March 4 in The Villages.
In September, government officials in the city of Wildwood received an 81-page plan from Walmart to construct what’s been described as a massive Supercenter at 1115 Waxman Drive in The Villages.
How big will it be?
The new Walmart Supercenter will encompass 200,000 square feet and will feature a 2,904-square-foot fenced garden center and about 20 gasoline pumps under a 6,120-square-foot fuel station canopy. There will be 867 parking spaces and 38 cart corrals on 14.75 acres.
According to The Villages, a traffic light may be installed west of Morse Boulevard at Waxman Drive with an entrance to the store. Another entry point will be off Morse Boulevard.
What’s unique about the new Villages Walmart?
The Villages Supercenter is part of Walmart’s “Store of the Future” concept, a five-year plan that aspires to an improved shopping experience.
The “Store of the Future” promises “improved associate support” with “features to help store personnel better support shoppers.”
The plan also includes “sleeker layouts,” scannable QR codes, sharper signage, energy-efficient lighting, expanded product selection and other features that add to the shopping experience.
When is it opening?
The Villages Walmart Supercenter is celebrating a grand opening at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, March 4.
What’s planned at the grand opening?
Festivities begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The first 300 customers in line will receive a $25 Walmart gift card. (One $25 gift card limited to one per family.) At 8 a.m., the store’s parking lot footprint activation opens. There will be free samples and giveaways while supplies last.
At noon, shoppers can learn tips and tricks to improve their golf game with three-time LPGA major champion Nancy Lopez. At 12:30 p.m., there will be Nancy Lopez meet & greet.
At 3:30 p.m., actor, comedian and TV host Anthony Anderson (“Black-ish”) will make an appearance and serve samples to promote his new cookbook, “AC Barbeque: The Husky and Handsome Guide to Grilling.” At 4:30 p.m., there will be a Anthony Anderson meet & greet.
At 5:45 p.m., saxophonist Mike Phillips performs under the stars, and at 6:30 p.m. there will be a Mike Phillips meet & greet.
