Jupiter police have determined that the deaths of two people found in the Indian Creek community over the weekend were the result of a murder-suicide, a town police spokesperson said.
The spokesperson on Wednesday, Feb. 25, did not name the people beyond saying they were a husband and wife and in their 80s.
Investigators say the couple were found dead as officers responded at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, to reports of gunshots at Indian Creek Drive and Wandering Trail, off Central Boulevard. The spokesperson said it appeared the couple was outside walking when the fatal shooting occurred.
Investigators did not indicate a motive or say which person is believed to have killed the other. In announcing the deaths in an overnight statement posted to the department’s social-media pages on Sunday, Feb. 22, investigators said there was no danger to public.
In Jupiter, violent crimes, particularly homicides, have been rare in recent years.
Palm Beach Post records showing that the town’s last reported homicide occurred in 2023, when a then-16-year-old teen was charged with manslaughter after authorities alleged that he mistakenly shot an 18-year-old friend while handing off a firearm.
The town reported no homicide deaths in 2025, a year that saw Palm Beach County record its lowest homicide total in more than a decade.
