Amanda Hill gives every dog her full and undivided attention.
She offers one-on-one pet grooming at Rockin’ Paws Pet Grooming in Carleton. The location, 12625 Grafton Road, was previously known as Emily Miller Pets.
Hill has been a groomer since 2016. She worked with two pet salons before starting her own in October 2025.
There are benefits to having one-on-one dog grooming, according to Hill.
She says a quieter, calmer environment without the noise of a busy salon can reduce anxiety.
“The attention is especially good for older dogs or dogs that are nervous,” Amanda Hill said. “Dogs are empaths and they feed off emotions. They can’t be stressed.”
Appointments are booked in advance, and pricing is determined on an individual, per-dog basis. Hill can customize services based on need.
She says working exclusively with one dog at a time allows her to tailor care based on specific needs and temperament.
“I enjoy working with older dogs and dogs that may be a bit more difficult,” she said.
She says service with the same groomer builds trust over time and can make grooming visits less scary.
Hill works with all breeds and sizes. She recommends having dogs groomed every six to eight weeks depending on the coat and keeping nails trimmed.
Keeping nails short helps with mobility and prevents joint stress. Long nails can cause discomfort and may discourage dogs from walking and playing.
Hill sees anywhere from 20-30 dogs per week and says spring is a busy season for her along with Christmas.
“I won’t take a day off from November to Dec. 24,” she said. “Owners want their pets looking their best.”
It is important to Hill that she earns her clients’ trust. A large portion of her customer base has been through referrals.
