San Bernardino County will suffer an economic loss when Frito-Lay permanently closes its Rancho Cucamonga distribution hub and lays off nearly 250 employees.
The announcement came via a company’s WARN notice to the State of California about the closure of the massive facility at 9535 Archibald Avenue, just north of Interstate 10.
Frito-Lay is best known for its snacks, including Cheetos, Doritos, Lay’s, Ruffles, Tostitos, Fritos, PopCorners, Funyuns and more.
PepsiCo Food, the owner of Frito-Lay, said its distribution facility in Rancho Cucamonga will cease all operations in June 2026.
“We will be shifting these operations to a new distribution center in the local community to better serve our customers and consumers,” said PepsiCo Foods U.S. in a statement, which did not disclose the new facility location.
Frito-Lay said all affected employees will receive pay and benefits continuation as well as career support, the Los Angeles Times reported.
In June 2025, layoffs occurred after PepsiCo Food announced that its Rancho Cucamonga facility was scheduled to close, and that its warehouse distribution, fleet, and transportation teams would continue to operate there, Food Manufacturing reported.
Flamin’ Hot employee
The Frito-Lay facility in Rancho Cucamonga opened in 1970 and once employed Richard Montañez, who claimed to have invented Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, which the company refuted.
Montañez’s story was told in two best-selling books, including “Flamin’ Hot: The Incredible True Story of One Man’s Rise from Janitor to Top Executive,” and “A Boy, a Burrito, and a Cookie: From Janitor to Executive.” The 2023 Disney film “Flamin’ Hot” was based on his story.
