Lake, Sumter counties open shelters for freezing temperatures

A cold-weather shelter will be available Feb. 23 and 24 Tuesday to protect Lake County citizens from freezing weather. The shelter is at LifePointe Church, 3551 E. Orange Ave., Eustis, starting at 5 p.m. on Feb. 23 and Feb. 24 and closing at 7 a.m. the following mornings.

Shelters operate overnight only and are not open between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to follow the Lake County Emergency Management Facebook page for real-time updates and to text COLD to 888-777 to receive cold-weather resource information.

For those who live in Sumter County, the Refuge at Jumper Creek in Bushnell has a cold-weather shelter for the community. Details: therefugeatjumpercreekinc.com, 352-568-8400.
