Josh Williamson predicted a “dogfight” to reach the Olympic podium.
And it was.
The Florida State graduate and bobsled teammate Frank Del Duca just missed a bronze medal by .44 seconds at the Winter Olympics in Italy Tuesday, Feb. 17.
Germany swept the gold, silver and bronze medals with times of 3:39.70, 3:41.04 and 3:41.52.
Del Duca (driver) and Williamson (push/brake), reaching speeds in excess of 80-mph in the 2-man bobsled, finished at 3:41.96.
The last time America won a medal in the 2-man bobsled was a silver in 2014. This marks the second consecutive Winter Olympics where Germany swept the bobsled events.
Del Duca and Williamson were in fourth place after the event’s first two heats Monday, and could not squeeze past the Germans in the final two heats Tuesday.
“Sitting in 4th overnight heading into heat 3 and 4,” Williamson posted on his personal Facebook page Monday. “Going to be a dog fight for a shot at the podium. Thank you all for your support!”
Williamson has another chance to medal in the 4-man bobsled competition Feb. 21 and finals on Feb. 22.
After recovering from COVID, Williamson finished 10th in the four‑man competition at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
