Spotrac is projecting that Thomas earns a one-year deal in free agency worth $1.8 million. Thomas will be 28 years old when the 2026 season begins.

In terms of player age, contract status, and statistical production, Elijah Campbell, Kaevon Merriweather, and Theo Jackson were used by Spotrac as comparisons to determine what Thomas’ deal could be.

Will the Colts re-sign Rodney Thomas?

After playing nearly 1,700 snaps in his first two NFL seasons, Thomas’ role has been significantly reduced over the last two years — playing 248 combined snaps, 150 of which came in 2025.

Thomas fills the free safety role and could be a backup option behind Cam Bynum.

While his defensive role was small, Thomas did play 275 special teams snaps across five different phases this past season.

Given Thomas’ projected contract, the Colts re-signing him wouldn’t be a surprise, given that there is relatively little investment on their part. Thomas’ special teams value could also be worth bringing back as well.

However, the Colts have several young players already on the roster at this position, including Hunter Wohler, Trey Washington, and Reuben Lowrey, who they could turn to fill those depth and special teams roles.

Prediction: The Colts do not re-sign Rodney Thomas.
