The freezing cold caused the water they were pumping onto the burning building to encase the fire apparatus and the firefighters themselves in ice.

Footing was treacherous on the iced-over street and sidewalks.

The fire on Main Street destroyed businesses, including a computer store.

Journal News/ Lohud.com photographer, Frank Becerra braved the brutal weather to capture images of the valiant effort.

One image showed New Rochelle firefighter Kevin Ferguson with his helmet encased in ice and icicles hanging from his moustache.

Tower ladder 11 was also completely covered in ice.

The entire streetscape looked like a scene from the Disney move “Frozen”.

Firefighters battled the flames throughout that night. Although the fire eventually tore through the roof of the building, they were able to keep the blaze from spreading to the building next door.
