Worker dies in accident at Waukesha Iron and Metal facility

An employee died Feb. 9 in an industrial accident at Waukesha Iron & Metal Inc. scrapyard.

The nature of the accident was not immediately known, nor was the identity of the victim. However, the Waukesha Police Department confirmed that it is investigating the fatal accident at the Waukesha business, 1351 E. Main St., where rescue workers pronounced the person dead at the scene.

“The Waukesha County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an examination to determine the official cause and manner of death,” Waukesha police Capt. Dan Baumann said in an email to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “Furthermore, the medical examiner will assist in positive identification of the deceased. Collectively we need to notify the next of kin.”

Scanner traffic indicated the possible general location of the accident on Feb. 9, though that information was not confirmed until Feb. 10. Baumann acknowledged the tragedy for those involved.

“We extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends, and coworkers affected by this tragic incident,” he said. “Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.”

Additional information would be released later, Baumann added.
