The Butler County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman who died after a Trenton house fire on Feb. 4.
Casey Lykins, 45, died after she was caught in a fire that broke out at a home on the 700 block of West Aberdeen Drive around 4:30 p.m. Her preliminary cause of death is listed as smoke inhalation and the manner of her death is pending investigation, according to a coroner news release.
On the day of the fire, Trenton Fire Department crews and other agencies responded to the two-story residential dwelling with smoke showing from the eaves, the department said in a news release. As crews entered the home, they encountered smokey conditions and low visibility, but they immediately rescued a dog that was just inside the front door.
When crews advanced to the second floor, they found Lykins unresponsive and took her outside to perform life-saving procedures, the release said.
Lykins was transported by Madison Fire/EMS to a landing zone to meet with UC AirCare for air transport to a hospital. However, the AirCare crew pronounced her dead shortly before 5:30 p.m.
The fire is currently under investigation by the Butler County Fire Investigation Team and the Ohio State Fire Marshal.
Who was Casey Lykins?
Lykins’ neighbors held a vigil for her a couple days after the fire on Feb. 6, according to Enquirer media partner Fox19.
She had a husband and three children, who were present at the vigil. They asked Lykins’ next-door neighbor, John Davenport, to speak on their behalf.
Davenport told Fox19 that the whole neighborhood loved Lykins.
“She was very, very fun,” he said. “She loved to cook out during the summertime. They were just always doing something, whether it was riding four-wheelers around the yard. They were just very down to earth … I just can’t reiterate enough the laughter and the joy Casey brought into the neighborhood.”
Davenport’s daughter, Megan Dearth, started a GoFundMe for Lykins’ family.
